Background
My manager, as the Project Manager of the One USQ Experience Project, tasked me with producing a series of training videos to improve understanding of a “User Experience Architecture Procedure” which was put in place for designing future University systems. This would then be incorporated into a Moodle training lesson for staff to complete.
Production Process
After extensive research of the Procedure and the different aspects of it, I proposed breaking the series down into bite-sized chunks so that it would be easier to digest for the audience.
To commence, I scripted all nine videos, ensuring they formulated a cohesive link between each. This involved lots of research of similar user experience concepts and referring the Procedure itself for guidance. Providing this to my manager, there were some moderate-level content changes to ensure it adhered to requirements. I also left gaps in the scripts for video interviews with colleagues across the University, who I had invited to participate in interviews on the relevant topic.
Once the scripts were finalised, I then proceeded to perform the voiceovers for all scripts in one recording, which was quite the undertaking! I decided to storyboard and produce the animation sequentially, so that the videos were completed one at a time, before moving onto the next, as I believed this was a more efficient way of receiving & applying feedback.
Regarding video interview snippits with content experts, most 1:1 interviews took place with myself performing the videography, and another colleague assisting by prompting the talent with questions.
One full-crew shoot was undertaken in the TV studio for a panel discussion with five colleagues discussing the different aspects of user experience. For this shoot, I was tasked with Director, Vision Mixer & Editor, with the Production crew manning the cameras, audio and lighting.
The production process overall for this series of videos took place over 4-5 months, as they were produced alongside other priority tasks.
Once the videos were finalised, they were uploaded as Unlisted videos to the USQ YouTube channel, and an educational course created in StaffDesk (staff training system) to educate users on the procedure.
